Matthew's Views on the Issues

"I believe state government has never been more important than right now, and I know that Minnesotans are up to the challenge. We need the government to focus on making sure basic needs are met, protecting individuals rights, and ensuring a competitive and fair market." - Matthew

    Cost of Living

Prices are rising everywhere - From housing and groceries to daycare, energy, and even the benefits you work for.

Meanwhile, wages have barely grown. Minnesotans are working longer hours and getting less of what they need.

This trend will continue until corporations can no longer buy their profits by selling your quality of life.

I will introduce legislation that restricts corporations from shaping policy that raises your cost of living.

    Healthcare

Out-of-control costs are making healthcare out of reach for too many.

Half of every dollar that you spend on healthcare goes to corporate middlemen.

Meanwhile insurance companies are using AI to deny you benefits.

I will work to keep healthcare affordable and accessible for all Minnesotans.

    AI Tech & Privacy

Cities and towns across Minnesota are signing contracts with private AI surveillance corporations - trading your right to privacy for a false sense of security.

And the real kicker? Your tax dollars are paying for installation & subscription costs, but you're also on the hook for lawsuits when something goes wrong.

I will introduce legislation to protect taxpayers’ rights by limiting the indiscriminate use of AI surveillance systems & ensuring datacenters benefit Minnesota, rather than taking advantage of our electricity and water.

    Energy

Energy is the basic building block of economic activity. We need to ensure Minnesota keeps up with growing energy demands.

I believe we should invest where it makes the most sense. That includes renewables and nuclear power. Nuclear power has come a long way since the last plants in MN were built in the 1970's, and it is a needed addition to meet the energy demands of tomorrow.

Research and development for new and improved energy sources, storage, and transmission should also be prioritized.

    Education

Schools are frustrated with unfunded mandates and a lack of state guidance to meet their requirements.

"Many principals felt that the perspectives of school leaders were not heard during the last legislative session." - Minnesota Principals Survey (MnPS)

Lowering class sizes is critical. When students receive the attention they deserve, they thrive. When they don't, students struggle to survive. With large class sizes, record behavioral incidents, & multiplying distractions, it is not possible for teachers to give students the attention they need.

    Crime & Safety

Accountability is necessary for any functioning society. We need to hold both criminals & the criminal justice system accountable for their actions.

Good schools & good jobs play the biggest role in reducing crime, but when people see that the same rules don't apply to everyone, they become more likely to break the rules themselves.

We need to ensure that our laws are fairly enforced, that our officers are protected, and that abuse is prevented before it becomes an issue.
